    We’re excited to host our second-ever Data Center Hackathon for Students, an immersive, hands-on experience where high school students will collaborate with industry professionals to tackle real-world challenges in one of the most critical industries of the digital age.

    Event Details

    Date: Saturday March 21, 2026
    Location: Notre Dame Academy, 1073 Main Street, Hingham, MA
    Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
    Who Can Participate? High school students (no prior experience required!)

    What to Expect

    • Learn – Gain insights into how data centers power the modern world.
    • Work with Experts – Each team will be paired with experienced data center professionals for guidance.
    • Develop a Solution – Teams will have three hours to brainstorm and create an innovative concept.
    • Pitch Your Idea – Present your solution in a five-minute pitch to a panel of judges.
    • Network & Explore – Connect with professionals and peers who share your interest in technology, sustainability, and problem-solving.

    7x24 New England Data Center Hackathon – FAQs

    1. Who can participate in the hackathon?

    This event is open to high school students who are interested in problem-solving, technology, or innovation. No prior experience in data centers or coding is required!

    2. Do I need a team to register?

    No, you can register as an individual. If you don’t have a team, we will assign you to one at the event to ensure everyone has a chance to participate.

    3. What is a data center?

    A data center is a facility that houses computer systems and critical infrastructure to store, process, and manage data for companies and services. They power everything from social media to online banking and cloud storage.

    4. What will we be doing during the hackathon?

    The event will begin with a brief introduction to data centers, followed by the presentation of four challenge topics. Each team will select one challenge to work on. With guidance from industry professionals, teams will have three hours to develop a solution before presenting their ideas to a panel of judges.

    5. Do I need to bring anything?

    We recommend bringing a laptop or tablet, a notebook and pen, and an open mind! If you don’t have access to a device, let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

    6. Will food be provided?

    Yes! We will provide lunch and snacks throughout the day. While we will do our best to accommodate food allergies, we encourage you to bring your own food if you have specific dietary restrictions.

    7. What are the judging criteria?

    Teams will be judged based on:

    • Innovation – How creative and unique is the solution?
    • Feasibility – Can this idea work in the real world?
    • Presentation – How well is the concept communicated?

    8. What happens if I don’t know anything about data centers?

    That’s completely fine! The hackathon is designed for beginners and will start with an introduction to the field. Mentors will also be available to guide you throughout the challenge.

    9. What should I wear?

    Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to focus and collaborate easily. Business casual or casual attire is perfectly fine.

    10. How do I sign up?

    Students can register online. Spots are limited, so sign up soon!

    11. Can parents or teachers attend?

    Parents and teachers are welcome to drop students off, but the event is designed for student participation only. If a teacher or school administrator would like to observe, please contact us in advance.

    We’re celebrating International Data Center Day by bringing industry professionals together for an abbreviated hackathon. Teams will tackle a real data center challenge and compete to see who can solve it best. It’s fast-paced, collaborative, and a great way to test your skills alongside peers.
